MQM legislators fear missing workers may be killed in fake encounters

Voicing serious concern over the arrest of Muttahida Quami Movement’s workers and sympathizers by police on Wednesday night, the Haq Parast members of National Assembly apprehended that three of the arrested workers who have been missing might be extra-judicially killed in some fake encounters.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain has warned the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government in Sindh of consequences if it doesn’t stop atrocities against his party.
In a statement issued here on Thursday following the reports that several MQM activists were held in police crackdown, Hussain said that the PPP government had started state terrorism against his party.

Muttahida Quami Movement chief Altaf Hussain said here that if any sincere and impartial action taken in Karachi for the restoration of peace would enjoy complete support of the party.
He, however, cautioned that such an action shouldn’t be the replica of the 1992 operation which was initially started against 72 big fish but was diverted towards MQM and a particular community.

MQM terms demand of calling army in Karachi `constitutional & justified’

Muttahida Quami Movement’s Coordination Committee Member, Syed Amin-ul-Haq, said here that the party’s demand for handing over Karachi to army for the restoration of law and order and for the protection of the lives and properties of citizens was lawful and strictly in accordance with constitution.
He was speaking at a press briefing along with Mohammed Amin, father of Muttahida’s martyred worker, Farhan and other members of the bereaved family shortly after burial of the deceased at Yasinabad graveyard.

Terming the Muttahida Quami Movement’s chief Altaf Hussain’s demand of calling army in Karachi `constitutional’, `lawful’ and `democratic’, the party’s Coordination Committee Member, Qasim Ali Raza, said that when the army could be called for ensuring free and transparent by-elections then it was also justified to call army for the protection of lives and property of the citizens.
