Shumaila Imran, the widow of Dr Imran Farooq Shaheed, was an invaluable supporter of the movement, and today we mourn the loss of that asset.
#ShumailaImranRIP
Throughout her life, Shumaila dedicated herself to the movement’s cause, making significant sacrifices in the process.
To us, she has become a martyr. Every member of the movement is familiar with the revolutionary figure of Dr Imran Farooq, understanding his dedication, sacrifices, unwavering loyalty, and both organizational and literary contributions, as well as the circumstances surrounding his martyrdom.
While newer members may not be fully informed, the long-standing comrades recognize Shumaila Imran, affectionately referred to as Bint-e Nazir, as one of the esteemed figures in the movement.
Residing in the Lines Area of Karachi, Shumaila was known among her loyal peers for her courage and tenacity.
During a time when
workers were barred from the Lines Area due to military operations against them, she and her family endured harsh circumstances, yet she continued her commitment to the movement.
Her residence faced numerous raids and attacks.
I advised her that for someone so dedicated, it was crucial to remain safe for the sake of the movement's continuity.
Acknowledging her bravery, I urged her to relocate with her family to a safer environment.
Ultimately, arrangements were made for them to rent a home in a less dangerous area. In her new residence, she took the time to compile an extensive booklet honoring the movement's martyrs.
To achieve this, she visited the families of these fallen comrades in various neighborhoods, documenting their stories of martyrdom, including those who were arrested, disappeared, or killed extrajudicially, as well as those wrongfully charged and imprisoned.
She painstakingly gathered these accounts and authored a comprehensive work entitled Martyrs of the Path of Truth, a project that had remained untouched prior to her efforts. After Dr Imran Farooq's martyrdom in London, Shumaila maintained her role as a devoted mother to her two young boys, Aalishan and Wajdaan.
She oversaw their upbringing and education, all while facing her own health struggles, including illness and an accident.
Despite her deteriorating health, she persevered in raising them.
Following a prolonged illness that required hospitalization, she has now departed to meet her Creator.
Upon learning of her passing, I reached out to Shumaila's mother, siblings, and her elder son, Aalishan. Unfortunately, her younger son, Wajdaan, is deeply affected by their loss, leaving him in a fragile state of shock.
Shumaila Imran expressed her wish to be buried in #Karachi in her will. Consequently, I have instructed the Coordination Committee to take the necessary steps for this arrangement.
Additionally, efforts have been made to establish connections wherever feasible. We are committed to fulfilling her wishes and will make every possible effort to ensure her remains are returned to Pakistan for burial in Karachi. I have also communicated with our colleagues in Karachi to ensure they carry out the essential preparations.
We ask that Allah, in His mercy, forgives Shumaila Imran Shaheed, grants her the honor of martyrdom, and makes her path forward smooth.
I would like to urge all fellow activists and supporters worldwide to recite the Holy Quran and sacred verses as a tribute to the departed Shumaila Imran and to offer prayers for her as extensively as they can.
Altaf Hussain. London.
