The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain telephoned former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani and expressed his sympathies on the kidnapping of his son Ali Haider Gillani. He said that the election commission, and the caretaker government had made several promises for holding peaceful and transparent elections but apparently the entire country had become hostage to religious extremists.

The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain telephoned President Asif Zardari and expressed sorrow on the kidnapping of Ali Haider Gillani, the PPP candidate and son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani. He strongly condemned the incident and said that earlier the offices and rallies of the MQM and other particular political parties were being attacked with bomb blasts and now the kidnapping of election candidates had started.
