Israel-Palestine conflict – A long-standing dispute

Parties: Israel and Palestine

Subject: Meetings and negotiations between the leaders of both sides to resolve the conflict

#Gaza #Palestine

On 29 September 2025, a 20-point framework was prepared and agreed upon simultaneously by U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.

I wonder why no representative from Palestine was included in this negotiation process or in the agreement reached. To my understanding, wasn’t this conflict between Israel and Palestine, rather the US and Israel?

Dear all! I would like to present some historical facts to demonstrate that this issue has long been a matter of contention between two parties whose leaders have held meetings in the past. Pictures and videos are attached for your reference:

(1) In 1991, a multilateral summit was held in Madrid, the capital of Spain, attended by representatives from the U.S., Russia, Israel, the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organisation), and Arab states.

(2) In 1993, the Oslo Accords took place, where discussions were held on the two-state solution formula. Participants in the Oslo Accord included U.S. President Bill Clinton, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat, and other key figures.

(3) In 1995, the Oslo II agreement was signed. That is, the Palestinian Israeli Interim Agreement (Oslo II), signed by PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

(4) On 13 January 1997, a meeting occurred between Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat in the presence of U.S. envoy Dennis Ross.

(5) On 23 October 1998, the Wye River Memorandum was signed at the White House, USA. This agreement was signed by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat in the presence of U.S. President Bill Clinton, stipulating that Israel would withdraw from additional Palestinian territories.

(6) In 2000, the Camp David Summit was held with U.S. President Bill Clinton, where it was agreed that 95 per cent of the West Bank and the entire Gaza Strip would be transferred to Palestine, and Jerusalem would be shared. The summit was attended by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, and U.S. President Bill Clinton.

This series of meetings and agreements continued in 2001, 2007, and from 2013 to 2014.

However, on 29 September 2025, a 20-point framework was agreed upon solely between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, without any representatives from the Palestinian Authority present.

Although the current Palestinian Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas, was available, he was not invited to attend. Was this not an age-old conflict between Israel and Palestine? Or was it a conflict between the U.S. and Israel?

Why was there no Palestinian representation during the entire negotiation process leading to the final meeting announcing the 20-point agreement?

I kindly ask, dear readers, especially those in the fields of history and philosophy, to guide me regarding these anomalies and help resolve my confusion. I would be deeply grateful for your assistance.

Thank you.
