Do not intimidate Muhajirs regarding the matter of new provinces, administrative units: warns Altaf Hussain

A few days ago, the Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi talked about how the system in Pakistan is broken and suggested that new provinces and administrative areas should be formed. This has led to discussions all over the country. Some people believe that Pakistan should have 20 provinces, while others think there should be 33. President Asif Zardari hasn’t said anything on this issue, but members of the Pakistan Peoples Party and certain Sindhi nationalists have begun to indirectly or directly warn Muhajirs, claiming that if Sindh is split, there will be a lot of violence in Sindh.
I want to ask those who are making threats: who do you plan to harm? Whose blood will you shed? What do you think Muhajirs are, anyway? The topic of provinces was not brought up by MQM or Altaf Hussain; it was actually federal Interior Minister
who mentioned it. Today, while speaking to a crowd in Kashmir, Bilawal Zardari backed the idea of forming new provinces and stated that if most people want them, then we will back that too.
If Bilawal supports the idea of new provinces, it is seen as valid, but if Altaf Hussain does, he is labeled as being against Sindh.
What kind of double standard is this? Why did the nationalists who are threatening Muhajirs not raise their voices against Bilawal for supporting provinces? Why did they not speak against Asif Zardari, who is silent on this issue? Why do they not tell Bilawal to hold a procession in Islamabad against the creation of provinces? Why is unnecessary hatred being spread against Muhajirs? Why are they being threatened?
I have been witnessing this hatred against MQM and Muhajirs for the past several days.
Some unfair media outlets are promoting unnecessary hatred towards Muhajirs in their shows. It's possible that Mr. Zardari has encouraged them to begin this, as they might have an idea of what is coming next. Currently, using the excuse of forming new provinces, certain nationalists are making threats against Muhajirs.
I caution that if anyone believes that after harming Muhajirs, their blood will be spilled in the River Indus, they should keep in mind that Muhajirs have two hands and eyes. So, why are you discussing violence? Please stop the pointless insults and threats against Muhajirs. They have grown so strong after facing repeated attacks that they can defend themselves against their aggressors. So, do not discuss murder, being murdered or violence. If you have something to say, direct it to the government; address it to those who are introducing the new system.
Field Marshal Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi need to pay attention to the warnings being made against Muhajirs, either directly or indirectly.
For those who argue that provinces should not be formed based on language, I pose this question: out of the four provinces in Pakistan, which one does not derive its name from a language? What about Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa? Isn't Sindh the area of Sindhis, Punjab the region of Punjabis, Balochistan the home of Baloch, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the territory of Pashtuns?
The region known as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa used to be called NWFP, which stands for North-West Frontier Province. The Pashtun people pushed for its renaming to Pashtunistan. Their request was justified, so now the area that was once called the Frontier is known as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Due to misunderstanding and bias, it is often claimed that Muhajirs do not form a nation. I wonder: when Pakistan was created in 1947, the Muhajirs who moved to Pakistan from places like UP, CP, Bihar, Aligarh, Hyderabad Deccan, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and other regions of India – did they speak Sindhi, Punjabi, Balochi, or Pashto as their first language?
Was Urdu not their first language?
When people claim that Urdu is the national language, it wasn't Altaf Hussain or MQM who established it as the national language. You can try to take away Urdu's title as the national language, but you cannot erase our language and our identity. Remember, areas like UP, CP, Bihar, Aligarh, Hyderabad Deccan, Rajasthan, and Gujarat were places where the Pakistan Movement took place, but Pakistan was not created in those regions. They gave up 2 million lives for the creation of Pakistan.
When they arrived here, giving up all they had for Pakistan, they were not machines, but real, living people. They carried their language, their way of life, and their traditions with them. Their move wasn't just about moving their bodies; it was also about bringing clothes, language, and a way of life with them.
If the people in today’s Pakistan have a culture that is five thousand years old, then those who moved from India also have a culture that is over five thousand years old.
If they are living in Sindh now, they are closely tied to their language, way of life, and traditions.
We honor all individuals; we bear no ill will towards anyone. Our MQM consists of individuals from various nationalities and speakers of different tongues, who are all contributing to the fight for a fair system in the nation. Nisar Panhwar, a past member of MQM’s Coordination Committee and former lawmaker, along with his son Mohsin Panhwar, are still unaccounted for today.
So, please avoid creating a divide between Sindhis and Muhajirs in Sindh and do not promote any form of hatred.
I urge the aware and educated Sindhi community, especially the younger generation, to question why some Sindhi nationalists are promoting hate, bias, and nationalism. Why are members of the Pakistan Peoples Party wrongly blaming MQM and Muhajirs for wanting to split Sindh? It was Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the Pakistan Peoples Party, who introduced linguistic and urban-rural divides in Sindh through the quota system, not Altaf Hussain.
I urge everyone to show that they are together and to stop those who are trying to spread hate.
