KARACHI - The Coordination Committee (Rabita Committee) of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Thursday was disbanded a day after the party founder and chief Altaf Hussain announced cleansing it of undesirable elements.
A party statement said that the Coordination Committees of Karachi and London, the main decision-making body of the MQM, have been dissolved and a seven-member committee has been formed to run the party affairs till the new coordination committee is elected by a general workers’ meeting on Saturday (tomorrow).
The act of cleansing the party of undesirable elements saw the party leadership suspend the membership of the Coordination Committee members Shakeel Umar and Saleem Tajik for an indefinite period.
Besides the party leadership has also suspended the membership of Karachi Tanzeemi Committee (KTC) member Farooq Saleem while another member Hammad Siddiqui had been removed.
The decisions were taken on the directives of party chief Altaf Hussain after complaints by the rank and file. The MQM workers have been asked not to maintain any sort of contact with the suspended members.
