Karachi: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) leader and Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping, Babar Ghauri on Wednesday telephoned Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and expressed concern over the rise of extortion in the city.
The Federal Minister said that government should safe guard the traders and people of Karachi from the extortion mafia.
“Government should take bold steps to eliminate extortion from the city,” the MQM leader said.
PM Ashraf assured Babar Ghauri that he would soon visit Karachi and would summon a meeting of all stake holders in order to eliminate extortion from the city.
The government would strictly deal with all miscreants trying to sabotage the peace of the city, the prime minister said.
It is to be mentioned here that the with the holy month Ramadan coming closer, the extortion mafia has increased their activities. A hand grenade was hurled at a shop in Yousuf Plaza while other incidents of violence were also reported in the city.
