Monday, April 08, 2013 - Karachi—The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has condemned the harassment of Muttahida Quami Movement candidates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by police and local administration. It has demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan to take notice of harassing the MQM candidates by local authorities and ensure that elections are free, fair and transparent by stopping strong-arm tactics. The Co-ordination Committee said that the MQM candidates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were being threatened and intimidated at the behest of influential people. The local police raided the house of Gulfaraz Khan Khattak in a village in Tehsil Kohat. Mr Khattak is a member of the Co-ordination Committee of the Muttahida Quami Movement who is also a candidate from NA – 14.

The Co-ordination Committee demanded President Asif Zardari, caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso and the Election Commission of Pakistan to take notice of the unwarranted raid on the house of Mr Khattak.

It urged them to stop the violation of the electoral code of conduct by stopping all forms of harassment, threats and intimidations against the MQM candidates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.—INP
