Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain condemned the killing of noted religious scholars Maulana Muhammad Aslam Sheikhupuri and Maulana Muhammad Safreen in an armed terrorist attack in Dhoraji area of Bahadurabad. He has termed it a part of the conspiracy to ignite sectarian strife in the city.

Mr Hussain appealed to the religious scholars belonging to different schools of thought to maintain religious harmony and asked them not to give up patience and forbearance under any circumstances. He asked them to foil the conspiracy to kindle sectarian violence by their unity like they have been doing in the past.

Mr Hussain offered heartfelt condolences to the mournful family members of Maulana Sheikhupuri and Maulana Safreen and prayed for the eternal peace of the two deceased religious scholars. He also prayed for the early recovery of the guards who were injured in the attack.

Mr Hussain demanded of President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah that the killers should be arrested as soon as possible. He called upon them to take severe action against the elements behind the conspirators trying to spark sectarian violence by killings and mayhem.

MQM MPAs CONDEMN KESC DECISION TO REMOVE ADDITIONAL METERS

Karachi: 13th May 2012

Members of Provincial Assembly of Sindh belonging to Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) have strongly condemned the power crisis as well as the KESC’s decision to remove additional meters. The MPAs termed it a gross injustice to the consumers in Karachi.

In their joint statement the MQM MPAs said that the worsening power crisis and long hours of load-shedding had paralyzed social, commercial, industrial and economic activities in the city. Thousands of people were facing unemployment because of relocation of industries and businesses to other places.  On the one hand the people were facing great agony due to unjust load-shedding and on the other hand the KESC was aggravating the situation by its illogical decision to remove additional meters.

The MQM MPAs said that the people of Karachi were using the most expensive electricity in the country, and paying the bills regularly. They said it was highly condemnable that they were being harassed by the power company.

They said that Karachi is a densely populated city and more than one family were living in every house and they had their separate electric meters installed so as to pay the KESC bills according to their consumption. In such a situation the decision by the KESC to remove additional meters was bound to cause disputes and severe problems.

The MQM MPAs have urged upon President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to rid the people of the country from prolonged load-shedding and take notice of the illogical decision of removing additional meters by KESC.
