The founder and leader of the MQM party, Mr Altaf Hussain, has been released from Police custody and will this evening be returning to his North London home.
We are grateful that the Police that, whilst in custody, he has been afforded the highest standards of medical care.
As the leader of a democratically elected party, Mr Hussain understands that this on-going investigation is part of due process and completely normal behaviour in a democratic country.
Whilst these enquiries continue, Mr Hussain calls for calm from our millions of party members and supporters in Pakistan and across the world.
MQM also thanks all political and religious parties, their leaders, people from all walks of life and, in particular, party members and supporters who expressed unflinching love and support for Mr Hussain.
Our party is committed to a genuinely democratic Pakistan in which the rights of all ethnic and religious groups are fully respected. We look forward to continuing cooperation with the British authorities when this matter is resolved.
