People should hold their peaceful protests within the limits of law, constitution and moral standards.
The founder and leader of MQM Mr. Altaf Hussain has said that people should not be allowed to break law under the under the guise of protests. He added that it was the fundamental right of a person to stage peaceful protest demonstrations on small or big issues and people should hold their peaceful protests within the limits of law, constitution and moral standards. He expressed these views in an emergency statement for Pakistani people.
“For the last few months a segment of population has been protesting against geo because they think the GEO Television broke journalistic code of conduct and ethnic while discussing high officials of intelligence agencies in their programs. Their style of reporting and discussion has generated a wave of anger among people, “ Mr. Hussain said.
“Geo should have cooled down public anger by offering an apology. Unfortunately, some elements within the GEO management followed the policy of confrontation. Their policy of confrontation increased tension and polarized public opinion on the issue, “ Mr. Hussain said.
“It is a debatable issue whether GEO did things intentionally or unintentionally. However, it is wrong to beat journalists belonging to GEO , who are mostly from poor and middle class. It is wrong to snatch and break their cameras and mobile phones. It is wrong to attack their vans which they use for reporting. We cannot term protestors actions legal and constitutional. Their violent protests not only cause damage to expensive equipment but also injure journalists, drivers, technicians and cameramen associated with the GEO Television. Their action has shocked and aggrieved me. I appeal to Pakistanis in the name of Pakistan’s security to keep their protest demonstrations peaceful and not to hurt GEO employees and journalists. They protect their expensive equipment too. They protect them from miscreants who try to hurt them and damage their equipment. They must try to cool down the anger of these people, “ Mr. Hussain.
“I hope that patriotic Pakistanis will adopt a new set of values and prove themselves an educated nation. I share the pain and agony of GEO journalists who have been subjected torture and express my heartfelt sympathies for them. I pray that Allah to help us all to do good works, “ Mr. Hussain said.
