Solidarity rally today : Nation united against terrorism: MQM

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has said that its solidarity rally today (Sunday) would prove a first step against terrorism and show that the nation is united against terrorism.
Speaking to media representatives, Deputy Convener of MQM Rabita Committee Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that this is not time to sit in homes “rather it is the high moment to come out and prove unity against terrorism.”
“By participating in the rally, the people of Pakistan would prove that they want peace.”
Nasreen Jalil, Aamir Khan, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Waseem Akhtar and other MQM leaders were also present on the occasion.
The MQM will hold the rally today to show solidarity with armed forces fighting terrorism. The anti-terrorism rally would be taken out at Shahrah-e-Quaideen Karachi at 3pm.
He said MQM chief Altaf Hussain had been warning against future threats for the last 10 years. Khalid Maqbool added that the nation is under threat as “7,000 officers and personnel of Pakistan armed forces have been martyred in their fight against terrorism”.
“Soldiers of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) were also martyred brutally. The MQM would pay a tribute to the sacrifices made by armed force and other law enforcement agencies fighting the Taliban militants,” he stated.
The MQM leader appealed to people to come out of their homes and participate in a large number in the rally. He also appealed to political parties to take part in the event “as it is high time for the nation to unite”.
Meanwhile, addressing party workers via telephone, MQM chief Altaf Hussain said that the army and people were united against terrorism.
He urged people to attend today’s rally in large numbers to make it a historic event and prove that they stood by the country’s armed force and other law enforcement agencies fighting the Taliban militants.
Altaf Hussain termed Taliban and Pakistan as opposite to each other, saying that Taliban’s dominance and occupation would jeopardise country’s security and existence.
He said MQM leaders and offices were targeted by the Taliban over the last several years only over the party’s “sin of waging a struggle for truthfulness”. He said that either enlightened moderate people would live in Pakistan or the Taliban, as both could not coexist. Meanwhile, party members along with the MQM leadership, have supported a crackdown on terrorists.
Speaking at a reception party in Karachi, MQM leader Babar Ghauri said the political leadership of the country, during the All Parties Conference (APC) meeting, had mandated the federal government to restore peace in the country instead of holding peace talks with the Taliban. Babar Ghauri said negotiations with the Taliban is a “sheer wastage of time”.
The MQM leader was of the view that the citizens of Karachi will prove “an iron wall” against the terrorists.
