Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Coordination Committee on Thursday demanded of President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, ISI’s director-general Gen Zaheer-ul-Islam, Interior Minister Chaurdhry Nisar Ali Khan and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to immediately help recover the party workers who had gone missing after their arrest by police and other official agencies.
The Coordination Committee also demanded of the Supreme Court’s chief justice to immediately take suo motu action of the MQM’s missing workers and help provide justice to their families who are passing through mental agonies.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Coordination Committee said of hundreds of MQM’s innocent workers and office-bearers arrested in the last six months and being kept in different prisons, 45 were still missing and police, Rangers and other law-enforcement agencies were reluctant to tell about their whereabouts.
The Committee said that MQM’s missing workers include its PIB Sector’s three members – Muhammad Naeem Ahmed, Arif Nizami and Muhammad Ali --, who were arrested from Jail Road area on Oct 7, 2013. Ironically, mother of Muhammad Ali worried over missing of his son had died the other day, it added.
Similarly, MQM Lyari Sector member, Anwar Ali, was picked up on Oct 2, 2013.
The Committee deplored that although the family members of the missing MQM workers who have been running from post to pillar in search of their near and dear one and were passing through mental agonies, they were not being provided justice.
It said that if there are charges against any worker or office-bearer of the party, they be arrested and produced before the court of law, instead of declaring them as missing persons after their arrest.
The Coordination Committee demanded of the people at the helm of affairs to recover all missing workers of MQM and they be produced before courts if there are any charges against them without any further delay.
