Hike in KESC tariff on the onset of Ramadan is highly unjust
The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has condemned the NEPRA for allowing the KESC an increase of Rs. 1.64 per unit in its tariff in terms of the fuel adjustment. It termed the decision against the people of Karachi saying they were using electricity at higher tariff as compared to other parts of the country. It said that the hike in the tariff in the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan was highly unjust.
The Co-ordination Committee said that the life of the people in Karachi was made miserable due to long hours of unannounced load-shedding and increasing faults in the ageing KESC system. It demanded of President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to take back the NEPRA decision allowing the increase in the KESC tariff. It said that the citizens of Karachi should be given relief instead of continuing with injustices.
