Muttahida Qaumi Movement Coordination Committee’s Deputy Convener, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, along with other members of the Committee, launched the 2014 Calendar at a ceremony held here on Wednesday under the aegis of the party’s Medical-Aid Committee.
The ceremony held at Azizabad’s Lal Qila ground was attended, among others, by the Coordination Committee’s members Wasay Jalil, Kaif Al-wara, Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui, Khalid Sultan, MQM Medical-Aid Committee’s In-charge, Farooq Jamil and office-bearers and workers belonging to various hospitals and dispensaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, said that political parties of the country had been doing politics in the name of service to the mankind whereas Altaf Hussain had introduced service to humanity in politics from the day one, resulting into strengthening of relationship between the people and the masses.
He said that the manner in which the terrorists had hijacked the country in the name of religion was that of illiteracy and barbarism and that was why we thought that there was no danger to country from any foreign country’s aggression, but it was there because of presence of extremist and terrorist groups.
Condemning the attack on the polio team in Qayyumabad on Tuesday, he said that it was MQM’s firm belief that the terrorist elements were bent upon seeing a crippled and polio-affected society in the country.
He regretted that although the menace of polio had been eradicated from all the countries, Peshawar continues to be the `capital of polio’ where Imran Khan is at the helm of affairs.
Dr Siddiqui said that the MQM chief Altaf Hussain was the only leader in the country who had been raising his voice against Taliban and terrorists since long, but no other leader or politician of the country has any courage who could denounce the terrorists as terrorist.
He said that Altaf Hussain had been repeatedly urging the government to take whatever decision it wanted concerning dialogue with Taliban, or else it would be too late.
Later, MQM Medical-Aid Committee’s In-charge, Farooq Jamil, highlighted the welfare-oriented services being rendered by the Committee, saying that the Committee on the directives of Altaf Hussain had always provided help to the people who were affected by natural calamities and tragic incidents.
Earlier, with the launching of the Calendar-2014 by Dr Siddiqui and members of the Coordination Committee, a large number of birds were freed in the environment whereas the workers present there showered petals.
