Altaf Hussain terms trial of Gen Pervez alone a conspiracy against country

Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has said that the act of holding only General Pervez Musharraf responsible for enforcing emergency or martial law in the country with an attempt to save his collaborators amounted to a conspiracy not only against one person but against the entire country.
“If it is necessary to try Gen Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 then it should be initiated since Oct 12, 1999, instead of November 3, 2007 and not only Gen Musharraf but all those who abetted be tried,” he added.
Mr Hussain who was having telephonic conversation with MQM Coordination Committee and its various wings and departments’ members at its Azizabad headquarters `Nine Zero’ from London, said that who are holding only Gen Musharraf responsible for all the things and demanding that he be hanged were not only doing open injustice but their act actually amounted to a heinous process of hanging the entire country.
He said that as a matter of treason case against Gen Musharraf was aimed at diverting attention of the people from the major challenges being faced by the country and the lingering problems being confronted by them.
Referring to his formula of Sindh One and Sindh Two that he presented before a mammoth public meeting on Sunday, the MQM chief said that the formula had become a reality whether one accepted it or not and its real shape would emerge shortly either as a formality or constitutionally.
Elaborating on the subject, he said that the rights of the oppressed and suppressed people would have to be restored and injustices would have to be done away with for the solidarity and unity of the country.
Mr Hussain said that though Karachi was administratively divided into different districts – East, West, Central and South—but when the people living in those districts were asked about their district they answer would be that they belonged to Karachi.
Giving an example of London in this regard, he said that the city was divided into East, West, South and North, yet the identity of people residing in these different areas of London remained the same.
Similarly, if there is Sindh One and Sindh Two so the people living there and running their affairs would definitely be belonging to the people of province, he said, adding that some people were giving wrong impression to his demand of giving rights to the deprived people and making them empowered.
He said that thought the work of parliaments across the country was to do legislation and the task of local governments was to look after the affairs concerning water supply, sewerage system, cleanliness, repair and construction of roads and provision of other basic amenities to people, the local government system did not exist in the country.
He deplored that democratic governments were avoiding local government elections and as result of which problems of people were continuously multiplying.
On this occasion, Mr Hussain on the suggestions of members of all departments of MQM, announced to convene a grand public meeting of all nationalities shortly so as to spread the Movement’s message in each village and tehsil of Sindh.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindhi, Baloch, Pakhtun, Seraiki, Kashmiri, Gilgiti, Hindu, Sikh and Christians associated with the MQM’s organizational departments assured Mr Hussain that no vested interest elements could keep them away from MQM.
