Current political situation in the country came under discussion during conversation on telephone
Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf telephoned MQM Founder and Leader Mr Altaf Hussain and exchanged views on the prevailing political situation in the country. PM Ashraf welcomed the meeting between President Asif Zardari and Mr Hussain. He praised Mr Hussain for giving support to President Zardari and commended him for making efforts for promoting democracy in the country.
Mr Hussain welcomed the directives given by the prime minister to the law minister regarding legislation on abolishing the ban on overseas Pakistanis from taking part in elections. He asked the prime minister to expedite the efforts as this was a cause of great concern to the overseas Pakistanis. He apprised the prime minister about the efforts being made by the minister for overseas Pakistanis Dr Farooq Sattar in this regard.
PM Ashraf said that the government would initiate legislation for lifting the embargo on holders of dual citizenship from taking part in the elections. He said that the overseas Pakistanis would be given their legitimate right with the help of the MQM and other allied parties.
Mr Hussain assured full co-operation to the prime minister for meeting the challenges facing the country and for solving the problems being faced by people. He asked the prime minister to work for solving the problems of people with good intentions and the MQM would support him.
PM Ashraf thanked Mr Hussain for being extended a warm welcome during his visit to Nine Zero.
