It is wrong to degrade or disrespect others identity
MQM Founder Leader Mr Altaf Hussain has stated that it is justified to be proud of one’s identity, however, it is wrong and unacceptable to degrade or disrespect others identity and spread hatred and discrimination on this basis. He was delivering a lecture to a gathering of students from various universities and colleges of Britain. Speaking on the subject of identity Mr Hussain said every person born in this world has his or her own identity. This can be individual or collective. To be proud of ones identity is neither prejudice nor it is against religion. He quoted the Holy Quran [Hujurat 49:13] “O mankind! We have indeed created you from one man and one woman, and have made you into various nations and tribes so that you may know one another;..” This clearly explains that the distribution of human being in tribes and nations is for the purpose of identity and this being done by the Allah Almighty. Therefore, refusal to accept ones identity is refusing to accept the decree of Allah Almighty. Mr Hussain said that to openly accept one’s identity and feel proud of being Punjabi, Pakhtoon, Sindhi, Baloch, Seraiki, Mohajir, Kashmiri, Hazara, Gilgiti or Baltisitani is neither a biased act nor it could be termed as wrong. Mr Hussain emphasised to the students that whether you are a Mohajir, Sindhi, Baloch, Pakhtoon, Punjabi or Seraiki; you must not forget your identity and also make a pledge that you will not target anyone for injustice, hatred or discrimination on the basis that he or she has an identity other than yours. You will not hate anyone on the basis of his language, colour, country, religion, sect or nationality. You will call oppression as oppression and always support the oppressed whether they belong to any region, language or religion. With such sentiments we can develop brotherhood between Mohajirs, Sindhis, Punjabis, Pakhtoons, Balochs, Seraikis, Kashmiris, Gilgitis and Baltistanis. This will promote and strengthen Pakistani nation and much needed national integrity and unity. On this occasion a question answer session was also conducted where the students asked several questions to Mr Altaf Hussain on the subject and he replied in detail to each and every question.
