Muttahidda Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) founder and leader Mr. Altaf Hussain has urged upon the United Nations (UN) Secretary General to break the silence over the genocide of people of Balouchistan and Mohajir Nation at the hands of Pakistan’s security forces. The UN should come forward to stop Pakistan from unleashing atrocities on the Balouchs and Mohajirs.
This he said in his third lecture on Balouchistan under the theme of, “Issue of Balouchistan and its historical perspective.” the lecture was aired through social media and was watched live by the millions across the world.
Speaking on status of Balouchistan, he said that Balouchistan was neither part of undivided nor divided India and Pakistan. It was a free state and had its embassy in Karachi. It was then called State of Kalat. Pakistan’s military had invaded Balouchistan and occupied it on Mar 27, 1948. Khan of Kalat was held hostage on gun point and was thus compelled to accept the merger of State of Kalat with Pakistan.
He questioned Why the UN did not enroll the State of Kalat like 200 other states while it was a free state in the Indian sub-continent.
During the lecture, he also cited a few lines from his previous lecture number 2, which pertained to betrayal by the military dictator General Ayub Khan, who deceived the Balouch on affidavit and butchered them.
He said that Pakistan military occupied Balouchistan in 1948. Pakistan’s all provinces had their provincial assemblies except Balouchistan until 1972. Karachi was the first capital of Pakistan and later it was also shifted to Islamabad and Balouchistan was controlled from these two capitals.

Governor rule was imposed on Balouchistan for five times”. First was imposed on Feb 13, 1973 and then on Dec 31, 1975, Jul 5, 1977, Oct 12, 1999 and Jan 14, 2013 respectively. Governor rule remained imposed for a total of 12 and a half years in Baluchistan.
He said that the Balouchs are not usurping anyone’s right but they are struggling for the restoration of their usurped rights. They are struggling to take back the stolen freedom. On this struggle, Balouchs from all sections of life are targeted and slain and executed. Arbitrary arrests are very common in Balouchistan and on Apr 3, 2009, three Balouch freedom fighters Ghulam Muhammad Balouch, Lala Muneer and Sher Muhammad Balouch were arrested from the office of Advocate Kachkol Ali and were later executed. Their bodies were dumped in desert some 40 kilometers away from Turbat. Special death squads hunt the innocent Balouch youth and freedom fighters. On Jul 14, 2010, BNP leader and former Senator Habib Jalib Advocate was executed in his office. All lawyers who were pro-active in defending the freedom fighters were collectively executed in bomb blast planned by the military establishment in connivance with the terrorist organisations. Almost 100 lawyers were martyred in that bomb blast in Quetta. Pakistan military had done the same in Dacca University and had thus executed more than 100 Bengali intellectuals. Nowadays, the security forces of Pakistan are kidnapping Balouch women and on Jul 24, 2018 kidnapped mother and two sisters of Balouch freedom fighter Zameer Balouch from Awran zone in Balouchistan. The number of Balouch youth enforced to disappear after kidnapping has crossed many thousands. A senescent Balouch activist Mama Abdul Qadeer walked across Pakistan barefoot to create awareness about enforced disappearances of Balouch youth, but no institution paid heed on his call but the intelligence agencies intimidated him with mounting threats for his life. In Totak zone of Balouchistan, a mass grave has recently been discovered in which 169 were buried. Another mass grave of four was also discovered in Panjgur area.
He said that, “Pakistani security forces are insulting religious cult of a particular Balouch clan.” “The members of that clan are restricted from visiting their religious centre called as Koh-e Murad or Koh-e Mehdi.”
The security forces have established military cantonment there and the sanctity of that religious centre has been insulted under long boots. Military is controlling media and restricts all media houses from reporting on Balouchistan. Human rights violations in Baluchistan are at apex and the only social media is taking these human rights violations into account. On Aug 30, 2018, the security forces raided the house of Fida Muhammad Balouch, arrested and dragged him with them. They security force’s personnel had tortured women during the raid. On Aug 29, 2018, ground military action on a vast scale has been launched with the assistance of Pakistan Air force. In just one spell, the security forces had killed more than 12 gypsies there and 7 Balouchs.
He said that the security forces of Pakistan are carrying genocide of Balouch and Mohajirs. He asked the affiliates of Mohajirs to write to UN on genocide of Balouch and Mohajirs. The UN has to break the silence over this genocide of Balouch and Mohajirs.
The media has so badly been censored in Pakistan that only military chief is always in limelight. TV talk shows are not allowed to speak a word on atrocities against Balouch and Mohajirs.
He said that since Balouchistan is blessed with unlimited reserves of mines and minerals, hence the security forces have occupied it. There are huge oil and gas reserves in Balouchistan. There are huge reserves and mines of Gold, Silver, Copper and other precious metals in Balouchistan. According to law, province has the first right on reserves and assets but the situation is totally opposite in Balouchistan. Sui, a vivid and important zone in Balouchistan is providing natural gas to rest of the country but the very zone is denied of gas facility. The wealth of Balouchistan in form of oil and gas reserves and gold and other metal mines are exploited and the revenue thus generated is taken away. Saindak is a valuable zone in District Chaghi of Balouchistan with plenty of Copper and Gold reserves. Government of Pakistan signed a deal with a Chinese company MMC in 1990 for pulling out the Gold and other metal from mines and in 2002 the Chinese company obtained a 10 year lease of the entire zone. In 2012, the lease term was extended until 2022. This shows how the wealth of occupied Balouchistan is being plundered. Reko Diq is world’s fifth largest gold mine in Balouchistan, spread over 100 kilometers and the estimated gold reserves are to the tune of 54 million ton, to the tune of 2 trillion US dollars. In 1994, Benazir Bhutto had leased out this site to an Australian firm, BHP, which sold rights of gold to another firm, Thethyan Copper. That company was allowed to export all the gold without approval from State bank of Pakistan. That company had unlawfully occupied 400 square kilometer area. That zone also has deep wells of Shell gas that could be a good replacement of petrol. Pakistani authorities had exempted mining companies free from audit. And this all is done by the military establishment of Pakistan.
He said that these above are solid reasons behind armed struggle of freedom by Balouchs and they are just in their acts and deeds. They are fighting to free their occupied land.
Mr. Hussain addressing the military establishment said that they should learn a lesson from fall of Dacca in 1971 and if they want to keep Pakistan intact, they should pull the troops from Balouchistan immediately, stop executing Balouch and Mohajirs, stop enforced disappearances, and send those Balouchs and Mohajirs in custody to their homes back.
