The founder and leader of MQM Mr. Altaf Hussain has paid great tributes to the martyrs of  8 October 2005. He said that catastrophic earthquake which had struck Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had left indelible impressions.  People who believe in humanity on national and international levesl still express their grief and sorrow over the tragedy. 
In a statement on the 8th anniversary of the tragic incident of 8 October 2005, Mr. Hussain said this catastrophic earthquake caused thousands of casualties and destroyed families.  The earthquake victims are still in need for rehabilitation. He added that we badly need plans to deal with natural disasters and tragedies.  We must improve the performance of agencies which deal with national disasters. 
Mr. Hussain said we could not forget the tragic day when people lost their lives. In fact, it is one of the tragic days of our national history.  He praised MQM’s KKF volunteers and staff, Rabita Committee members and parliamentarians, doctors of medical aid committee for the medical and relief activities. He said they braved harshness of weather in order to perform humanitarian work.  He said Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation and MQM’s humanitarian efforts for the victims of 8 October are a living example of their good work for the humanity.  The government of Pakistan has awarded Sitar-e-Imtiaz for their humanitarian work. 
Mr. Hussain said that in 2013 another earthquake struck Baluchistan and flattened thousands of houses. The catastrophe has forced people to live in open air in inhumane conditions. He prayed for the people who had died and affected because of the recent earthquake in Baluchistan, including Awaran on the occasion of the 8 October tragedy. He expressed his sympathies with the bereaved families whose loved ones died in the 8 October earthquake. He prayed that Allah give them strength to bear the loss.
