POLITICAL PARTIES’ INDIFFERENCE, CRIMINAL SILENCE ON CUSTODIAL DEATH OF PROF. ARIF IS HIGHLY CONDEMNABLE: INTERIM CC

LONDON. January 17, 2018:  Muttahidda Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) interim Coordination Committee has slammed political parties over their criminal silence on cold blooded custodial death of MQM senior leader and eminent academician, philosopher and intellect Professor Dr Hassan Zafar Arif.

In its statement, the Committee said that slain Prof. Arif was not just one of MQM senior leader but he was a philosopher, an academician and thinker of Pakistan who trained and educated thousands of students at the University of Karachi for many decades. He was assassinated and the whole of Pakistani society was deprived of his grand services as intellect, thinker and academician. The crucifying situation that emerged after his assassination is that his cold blooded custodial death has been ignored and even the apathetic silence of Pakistan’s politicians and missing condolence messages and condemnation has saddened the entire civil society.

It said that we read statements on Model Town carnage but those who are championing them of rights and justice are silent on his custodial death as if his death has not affected any walk oflife and that he was just an ordinary citizen. This entire apathetic attitude of the politicians is highly deplorable.

In addition, the national media in Pakistan also remained indifferent and even it did not telecast the news of civil society’s protest on his custodial death, it deplored.

It appealed to the rights organisations and the civil society of Pakistan to boycott events and programmes of such indifferent political parties.
