MQM INTERIM COORDINATION COMMITTEE DEMANDS HIGH LEVEL INVESTIGATIONS ON CUSTODIAL DEATH OF PROF. HASSAN ZARAF ARIF
LONDON. January 15, 2018: The Muttahidda Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) interim Coordination Committee has demanded the President Mr. Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Chief of Army Staffs General Qamar Jawaid Bajwah and Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Saquib Nisar to initiate high level investigations on custodial death of MQM senior leader slain Prof. Dr Hassan Zafar Arif.
Prof. Arif besides one top of MQM leaders was an eminent academician, intellect and philosopher, who educated thousands of students in Pakistan and he struggled for the rights of oppressed for his entire life. He was very active in his struggle for saving Mohajir Nation from the repression, injustices and genocide. He could not be subjected to quit his struggle despite tremendous pressure from the surety forces of Pakistan.
The paramilitary Rangers had arrested him twice quite unlawfully but he remained steadfast to his firm resolve, which caused frustration to the tyrant security forces, it said adding that the security forces often and in particular on arresting him on December 8, 2017 threatened him of capital punishment for his denial of quitting his struggle for the rights of Mohajirs. Failing to achieve their designs, the security force kidnapped him once again and tortured him to death and dumped his body at a deserted location near Ilyas Goth located in Ibrahim Hyderi on rear seat of his personal car on January 13, 2018. His tortured body and clod blooded assassination is one such tragedy that Mohajirs would never forget. The doctors had also under pressure wrote a fake postmortem report stating wherein his cause of death was natural but the pictures and video of him are a candid clear proof that he was inhumanly tortured to death by the security force. The course of proper investigations on Prof. Arif’s custodial extrajudicial assassination is being blocked thus.
It said that the Chief Justice Mr. Saquib Nisar is known for his suo motu notices on traffic gridlocks, poor healthcare facility at hospitals, and other matters and even that he also took a suo motu on brutal murder of a minor girl Zainub after she was raped in district Kasur but sadly he has not yet taken a suo motu on custodial death of Pakistan’s eminent academician, philosopher and rights activist Prof. Arif.
It said that in order to prove the Justice wants equal justice to all without discrimination he is then bound to also take a suo motu on his custodial death and seek explanation from country’s institutions involved in his extrajudicial assassination.
The interim Coordination Committee demanded President Mr. Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, COAS General Qamar Jawaid Bajwah and CJ Mr. Saquib Nisar to hold high level investigations on cold blooded custodial assassination of Prof. Arif and take those who killed him to task.
