MQM SUSPENDS COORDINATION COMMITTEE MEMBER BASIT ALI FOR AN INDEFINITE PERIOD
Muttahidda Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Coordination Committee has suspended Coordination Committee member Mr. Basit Ali for indefinite period over violation of party discipline. The Coordination Committee here in London took this decision on Tuesday, sep 26, 2017. The Coordination Committee meeting was also attended by members from United States of America and Canada.
The meeting deliberated on suspended member Ali’s move for sacking MQM South Africa Unit Organiser Mr. Riyaz Ahmed and issuance of a press statement in this context. The meeting said that it is the prerogative of the Coordination Committee to decided about suspension or sacking or removal of any office-bearer after detailed deliberations and on reaching a decision, the committee seeks approval and endorsement from the MQM founding leader Mr. Altaf Hussain. On completing this process, the committee’s decision is adopted as unanimous decision across MQM. The meeting said that as per party constitution, no individual is entitled to take and impose its decision regarding suspension or removal of any MQM office-bearer.
Mr. Ali had a day earlier took a decision and implemented on his own in which he had removed MQM South Africa Unit Organiser Muhammad Riyaz Ahmed from his position and retired him of his party obligations and appointed Mr. Rashid Meenai as his replacement. Besides, Mr. Ali wrote a press statement and issued it for public notice, which was an act of absolute violation of the party discipline, rules and regulations and criterion set for the party.
The Coordination Committee Mr. Ali had also in past issued a press statement that carried details about MQM South Africa Unit office-bearers’ removal and the Coordination Committee had sought explanation from him and issued warning to him but he repeated the same act a day earlier.
The coordination Committee said that on serious violations of party discipline, Mr. Ali has been suspended as Coordination Committee member for an indefinite period. However, he might continue to working as MQM worker.
The Coordination Committee has issued an advice to all the MQM South Africa Unit along all overseas Units not to approach Mr. Ali as Coordination Committee member.
The coordination Committee has also immediately revoked the press statement that was issued by the suspended Mr. Ali.
It directed Mr. Riyaz Ahmed to continue to working as MQM South Africa Unit Organiser. It also clarified that the Organiser is the only office-bearer, who may summon a meeting.
It is pertinent to mention that MQM founding leader Mr. Hussain has endorsed the Coordination Committee for its decision about suspending Mr. Ali for indefinite period.
Meanwhile, the Coordination Committee has summoned a meeting of MQM South Africa Unit office-bearer and workers on Friday, Sep 29, 2017 and has directed them to ensure their full attendance and make a manifest of complete loyalty with MQM founding leader Mr. Hussain.
