Voicing serious concern over the arrest of Muttahida Quami Movement’s workers and sympathizers by police on Wednesday night, the Haq Parast members of National Assembly apprehended that three of the arrested workers who have been missing might be extra-judicially killed in some fake encounters.
In a joint statement issued here on Thursday, the MQM MNAs said that although police had arrested a number of workers and sympathizers of the party on Wednesday night, both the police and the administration have been refusing to share any information concerning whereabouts of at least three apprehended workers.
They said that since three workers of the party – Mohammad Aslam, Younis and Zulfiqar --, belonging to Nazimabad, Defence and Mehmoodabad, who were picked up by police, on Wednesday night, have neither been released not produced before any court of law, their family members have been passing through mental agonies.
The family members of the missing workers of the party have been telephoning MQM’s Azizabad headquarters `Nine Zero’ and London Secretariat to express their concern over the plight of their near and dear ones, they said, adding that according to their information the missing workers were being subjected to torture under the custody of police.
The MQM legislators demanded of Prime Minister Mohammed Nawaz Sharif, Federal Interior Minister Chaudry Nisar Ali Khan, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudry, Chief Justice of Sindh High Court Musheer Alam, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to take immediate notice of the arrested workers who had gone missing and produce all the arrested workers before courts.
