RAZA KHAN — PUBLISHED ABOUT 3 HOURS AGO

The Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday informed the Supreme Court, while submitting a list of 171 missing workers, that 100 of their workers have gone missing during the current year.

MQM alleged Rangers have picked up most of the workers who have gone missing during the year.

The list was submitted to the court by MQM Senator Mian Attiqui on behalf of the party and aggrieved families.

“Out of 100 party workers who went went missing in 2016, 90 per cent have been picked up from their houses by Rangers,” said Attiqui.

He added most were picked from their residences.

“We have lodged FIRs for all our missing party workers in respective police station of Karachi.”

The MQM senator added the list does not include the names of party workers who have been presented before a court of law.

“The court will club our list with the original missing persons’ case,” stated the senator.

The list of missing party workers contains all the relevant information including their identities, residential address and place from they were picked up, added Attiqui.

In April, MQM held a protest demonstration near the Chief Minister House against what it called the enforced disappearance of its workers.

Carrying placards and portraits of their fathers, sons or husbands, the participants, including women and children, called for “immediate release” of their loved ones.

Chief Justice Anwer Zaheer Jamali, while hearing missing persons’ case on March 18, had directed the MQM to submit a list of its missing persons to pursue the case.
