Nadeem Nusrat hails SC’s suo motu
 Posted on: 3/26/2016
The Convener of Muttahida Quami Movement Nadeem Nusrat applauded Supreme Court of Pakistan for taking suo motu action against government’s tactic not to devolution the power to the elected local bodies’ system.
In a statement issued from London Secretariat, the Convener said the local government system is the pillar of democracy. He said the all the basic necessities, including education, health, sanitation and local policing are being controlled by the local governments throughout the world.
He said in all the developed countries the Parliaments are to legislate and the fundamental facilities are being provided by the municipal institutions run by local governments. He said it was unfortunate that the LG system was not permitted to be flourished in the country.
Nadeem Nusrat said that the Constitution clearly directed the federal and provincial governments to devolution of power to the elected representatives of the LG system but Sindh government seemed violating the basic rule of the LG ordinance and tactfully delaying the process. He appealed the Chief Justice of Supreme Court to direct Sindh government and provincial elections’ commission to immediately conduct the elections of mayor, deputy mayor and chairmen.
