MQM inmates forced to change political loyalty: Dr Farooq Sattar

KARACHI, 13-03-2016:
The Senior Deputy Convener of Muttahida Quami Movement Dr Farooq Sattar said that at least 40 detained MQM workers on various cases were put to closed cell and were being tortured for changing their political loyalty.

Talking to a media conference at Khursheed Begum Secretariat, MQM Leader said that his party MNAs and MPAs were being contacted through unknown numbers and threatened them to change their loyalty. He said that MQM kept indicating about the planned conspiracy to divide MQM into various fractions and deterred the unity of the people.

Unfolding the conspiracy against MQM, he said that two days earlier Rangers’ contingent with Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent illegally stormed the barrack numbers 18, 19, 24 and 25 and tortured the prisoners. He said that all of them were deprived of their rights given under the jail manual and put to closed cells.

Dr Farooq Sattar said that all the forty detainees were on trails and not yet convicted but they had been treated like criminals and the jail authorities seized their fundamental rights. He said that they all were forced to change their political loyalties.

He said even the families of the missing persons were also being contacted through unknown numbers to immediately join the “new bungalow” then their disappeared loved ones could be recovered. He said that MQM Parliamentarians were forced to change their loyalties. MQM Leader strongly condemned the violations of fundamental rights of the MQM detainees.

Dr Farooq Sattar also demanded the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah to take actions against the seizure of detainees rights under jail manual and the unknown telephone calls to MQM Parliamentarians. He said that such conspiracies could damage the reputation of national institutions and it was government’s responsibility to take action against it.

He also appealed the courts and the human rights organizations to immediately take action against the violations of jail manual. He said that MQM workers already had facing fabricated cases against them and now they were forced to leave MQM and change their loyalties.

He said that MQM was being challenged by such conspiracies from its inception, especially in 90’s era but all the episodes were badly failed by the ultimate unity of the people. He said that the conspiring elements would once again be defeated while MQM and people’s relations would remain intake.

He said that all the fake and bogus allegations were rejected by the courts and people especially in recent by-elections and LG polls. He said that during the democratic regime, the conspiracy against one of the largest political parties nullified the claims of democratic rule.
