Mayor designate demands lifting media ban on Altaf Hussain
KARACHI: Waseem Akhtar, Mayor Designate, Karachi yesterday demanded of the government to lift media ban on Altaf Hussain immediately if the ruler really intend to rid the country of terrorists, corruption and loot and plunder by two big political parties.
He was briefing the media representatives on the fourth and last day of protest hunger strike at Karachi Press Club.  Altaf Hussain is the only leader of the country who challenged the landed aristro-cracy and replaced the political inheritance by sending commoners to highest forums of Senate of Pakistan and National Assembly, he said adding that ban on speeches, statements, televised address and even photograph of Muttahida Qaumi Movement's leader was denying fundamental right of freedom of speech to millions of his followers which is violation of Article 19 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, a large number of delegations and renowned personalities visited the hunger strike camp to express solidarity and to oppose the ban on MQM's chief. These include Muhammad Aqil, member Pakistan Bar Council, Mehmood-ul-Hasan, President, Karachi Bar Association, Mian Muhammad Mehmood, president Boat Basin Association, religious scholar Allama Ali Karar Naqvi, Matloob Awan, Chairman, Pakistan Sunni Tehreek, Basharat Mirza head of Democratic Party and others.
