Ban on Altaf Hussain's speeches un-constitutional, inhumane: Farooq Sattar

Ban on Altaf Hussain's speeches un-constitutional, inhumane: Farooq Sattar
 Posted on: 1/24/2016
The ban on speeches, articles and photographs of Altaf Hussain in media is un-constitutional and inhumane, said Dr Farooq Sattar, Senior deputy Convener of Muttahida Qaumi Movement's Co-ordination Committee and other MQM leaders here yesterday.
They were addressing a mammoth gathering of the workers and supporters of MQM at M.A.Jinnah Road who gathered on a call by the party to protest against the ban operative since many months. The media ban was in line with a judgment by Lahore High Court in a petition filed by a citizen.
Dr Farooq Sattar said that Article 19 of the Constitution of Pakistan gives right to every citizen to express his views and the ban was in violation of a fundamental right. This ban on our beloved leader is rejected by this huge gathering of the people of Pakistan, he said appealing to the Lahore High Court to reconsider its order as it violated the inalienable fundamental rights of a citizen to express his-self. The right to express is a democratic right also and ban is against the ideals of democracy, he said. A mind set is working on “Minus one" formula to keep Altaf Hussain away from his followers but this mindset is bound to fail.
Deputy Convener of MQM Shahid Pasha said that ban was placed for just 15 days but still remains in place. Giving a three day's ultimatum to the government he said if ban was not revoked by Jan 27, MQM would be exercising its right of peaceful protest.
Gulfraz Khan Khattak of MQM legal wing termed the judgment as “Absurd” adding that Altaf Hussain was criticized in every programme in media but was not allowed to defend himself or present his case or ideals before the people of Pakistan.
The huge gathering was also addressed by Faisal Sabzwari, Heer Soho, Allama Abbas Kumaili, Senator Tanveer ul Haq Thanvi. Pastor Anwar Khursheed and others. The participants dispersed peacefully later
