Sindh government is using police to crush Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) before local bodies' elections, said Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hasan here yesterday while addressing a hurriedly called press conference at Khursheed Begum Secretariat.
Flanked by MPAs Azeem Farooqui, Rehan Zafar, Khalid Iftikhar and Waseem Qureshi, Khawaja Izhar said that arrests of nominated candidates of MQM in different cities of Sindh particularly Karachi was a conspiracy before second and third phase of local bodies elections.
This was pre poll rigging, he said adding that MQM is engaged in an aggressive campaign for the grass root bodies and people response was also overwhelming.
The huge participation of people in corner meetings, gathering and opening of election offices by candidates made government worried about results of the local bodies elections. This has made them employ police to arrest the candidates from Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, Jamshoro and other places.
The state resources are being used against MQM affecting the election campaign, KhawajaIzhar-ul-Hasan said.
The transparency of the polls would be doubted in such a situation, he said.
Sindh government shall restrain from unleashing police force against MQM and instead provide a level playing field to Haq Parast candidates, he demanded.
