MQM legislators voice concern over use of inferior quality material in flyovers

Voicing serious concern over the use of inferior quality material in the three under-construction flyovers being built at Aisha Manzil and Water Pump on Shahrah-i-Pakistan and Dakkhana on SM Taufiq Road, Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Sindh Assembly members have demanded probe into the matter and severe punishment to the officials found guilty without any discrimination.
In a joint statement issued on Thursday, the MQM MPAs said that on the one hand, the citizens of the metropolis in the absence of a strong and effective local government system were already confronted with numerous problems and, on the other, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s `corrupt’ engineers in connivance other officers were adding to their miseries by providing them sub-standard and `artificial’ facilities.
Apprehending that the citizens might be exposed to accidents in the near future owing to use of inferior quality material in the under-construction flyovers, the MPAs said that a callous attitude on the part of KMC’s few corrupt engineers and officers amounted to sheer wastage of money and time and, as such, it was a matter to ponder upon.
They said that the use of inferior quality material in all the three flyovers being built on the city’s most busy thoroughfares from where all sorts of heavy vehicular traffic passes through 24 hours not only amounted to injustice with the citizens but could also expose them to some dangerous accidents and, hence it was a highly condemnable act.
The MQM legislators urged the authorities to inquire into the matter, give stern punishment to those found responsible for using inferior quality material in the flyovers, besides ensuring that the citizens are provided with best quality facilities.
