The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has expressed its sorrow on the suicides of schoolchildren and appealed to the media to desist from giving it inappropriate projection. They said corporal punishment from teachers, lack of attention from parents and other forms of child abuses were some of the reasons for the growing tendency in children to commit suicide, but the manner in which they were being discussed in television channels would serve no purpose. It would only increase mental stress on other students who may also start thinking about harming themselves.
The Co-ordination Committee said that such incidents should be brought before the public but the media must exercise restraint and caution while highlighting them so that other young students may not follow the same path. They said that the media should play an effective role in moulding the character of the young generation. They also extended sympathies to the grief-stricken families whose children had committed suicide.
