Thousands of Muttahida Qaumi Movement workers and sympathizers on Monday staged a protest demonstration in front of Karachi Press Club to denounce the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman’s `uncalled for’ and baseless allegations leveled against their party chief Altaf Hussain.
Participants of the protest demonstration held under the aegis of MQM against the utterances of the PTI chairman Imran Khan in connection with the murder of his party leader Zahra Shahid Hussain in Karachi on the eve of re-polling in NA-250, were carrying placards inscribed with slogans against the PTI chief and chanted full-throated slogans, describing Imran Khan’s outburst against Mr Hussain as `fabricated’ charges.
Those who spoke on the occasion included MQM Coordination Committee’s Deputy Convener, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and members Waseem Aftab, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Gulfraz Khan Khattak and other office-bearers. Similar protest demonstrations were organized across the country and abroad.
Lashing out at the PTI chairman Imran Khan for leveling allegations against Mr Hussain, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui termed the allegations baseless and unfounded, saying that the PTI chief be tried under Articles 62 and 63 on the charges of lying.
Accusing the PTI of signing an accord whereby women were deprived of their right to vote, the MQM leader said that the PTI chairman, who had been championing the cause of youths during his election campaign, had nominated a 72-year-old `corrupt’ person for the post of chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa despite knowing that he had earlier switched his political loyalties four times.
Pointing out towards the huge crowd that had assembled in front of the KPC to express solidarity with the MQM chief Altaf Hussain, he said that Zahra Aapa was the daughter of the city and accused the PTI chairman and his party workers of killing the decent and dignified elderly woman.
Criticising the PTI chairman for raising the bogey of new Pakistan, he said that such a slogan on the part of the party was a conspiracy against our forefathers who had sacrificed 20 million lives for the creation of Pakistan.
Accusing Jamaat-i-Islami and its thunder squad of conniving with the PTI as a part of its enmity with Karachi, he said that Imran Khan whose motive was to become prime minister had doled out billions of rupees during his party’s election campaign.
He also alleged that it was Imran Khan who not only destroyed cricket in Karachi but also blocked the capable players’ entry into the national team.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sagheer Ahmed said that Imran Khan by leveling baseless allegations against the MQM chief Altaf Hussain had hurt the feelings of millions of his followers, thereby compelling the MQM workers and sympathizers to hold protest rallies across the country as well as abroad.
Referring to much-talked about Articles 62 and 63, he said that Imran Khan did not enjoy the right of representing assembly as the latter had left her daughter in the lurch.
Gulfraz Khan Khattak said that the PTI chairman’s baseless allegation against MQM chief was a conspiracy to defame Mr Hussain.
The MQM protest demonstration continued till sunset and later its participants dispersed peacefully.
