Disenfranchising women is a violation of their basic human rights: Altaf Hussain
London: 10 May 2013
Mr Altaf Hussain, founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), has vehemently condemned the agreement reached between Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamat -e- Islami (JI) in lower Deer Division to ban women from voting. He declared that this agreement is inhuman, undemocratic, un-Islamic and against basic and fundamental rights of women. He further added that this agreement is tantamount to pushing Pakistan back into the Stone Age when men commanded complete control over women.
Mr Altaf Hussain said that he hoped that all believers in women rights will raise their voice against this inhuman agreement. He also appealed to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the caretaker government to take notice of this brazen violation of human and women rights and act against those who were not allowing women to caste their votes.
