The chief of MQM, Pakistan’s liberal and progressive political party, has categorically condemned those responsible for the twin blasts in Lahore’s Roman Catholic Church and Christ Church this morning.
Mr Altaf Hussain, MQM’s founder and leader, said, “For too long, Pakistan’s Christian community has been the target of religious extremists. In 2013, they were also targeted in Peshawar when 80 people were killed in a suicide attack on the All Saints Church. I firmly condemn this brutal and cowardly act, targeting innocents in the church.”
MQM has had a clear stance on extremism and it has been the most vocal political party in Pakistan against increasing religious and ethnic extremism. MQM stands for a liberal and progressive Pakistan of equal rights for all citizens, regardless of their ethnic background.
