Effective measures should be taken to give security to candidates and political workers busy in election activities
The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has deplored the killing of the MQM candidate from PS – 47 Hyderabad Fakhrul Islam by armed terrorists near Hala Naka. It said killing of Fakhrul Islam has exposed tall claims made by the caretaker government for protecting candidates during the election campaign. It asked as to what the caretaker government was doing and if it could not give protection to candidates, how would it would be able to give security to common people during the election campaign.
The Co-ordination Committee said it was the duty of the caretaker government to take steps for providing security but regretted that the Interior Minister Malik Habib was busy in issuing political statements and he was trying to win favor of a certain political party.
The Co-ordination Committee said that a sector office of the MQM in Hyderabad was attacked sometime back resulting in the killing and wounding of some workers but the elements involved in the incident were still roaming freely.
The Co-ordination Committee said that terrorists were openly threatening to target liberal political parties in order to undermine the election process and for keeping them away from elections. It said that while the police and the Rangers were busy in conducting operations in peaceful areas in Karachi, no action was being taken against these terrorists.
The Co-ordination Committee demanded caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso and the Chief Election Commissioner to order for immediate arrest of the killers of the MQM candidate Fakhrul Islam. It also called for taking effective measures for providing security to candidates and political workers busy in the election activities.
The Co-ordination Committee extended sympathies to the grieving family members of Fakhrul Islam and prayed Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace.
