MQM, one of Pakistan’s largest parties, has strongly condemned today’s terror attack on a mosque in Peshawar, which has so far left more than 20 dead and 60 injured.
In response to the attack, MQM's leader, Mr. Altaf Hussain said "I strongly condemn this horrible attack on unarmed and innocent worshippers. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. The fact that terrorists use the name of religion to attack innocent people is an extremely tragic and condemnable act. The Government of Pakistan must take decisive action against Taliban terrorists, who have claimed responsibility for today’s tragic events.”
The attack was carried out this afternoon when people were performing the Friday prayers at the mosque in Peshawar. TTP, who carried out the attack, said it was an act of revenge for the sentencing to death of a known terrorist, Dr. Usman.
MQM has been categorically vocal against the rising religious extremism in Pakistan, and has suffered the loss of several of its parliamentarians as a result of it. In a country where use and abuse of religion have become the norm in political life, MQM is firmly opposed both to the Taliban and to all forms of fanaticism and extremism.
