LIFE IN DANGER

MOHAMMAD SHAKIR, INCHARGE OF MQM BURNS ROAD SECTOR ARRESTED BY THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES

On 29 December 1998, at around 11 p.m., Mohammad Shakir son of Mohammad Shafi, Incharge of MQM Burns Road Sector, was arrested by law enforcers from Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi. He was immediately taken to unknown destination, where brutal torture is being inflicted upon him. We are awaiting further details.

It is apprehend that he would be tortured and pressurised to issue pre-written 'confessional statements' prepared by the Government of Nawaz Sharif to malign the image of the MQM. After the recent murder of MQM worker Fasih Ahmed in police custody, we strongly fear that the life of Mohammad Shakir is in grave danger.
