LATEST AVAILABLE REPORTS OF RAIDS, ARRESTS AND HARASSMENT OF THE MQM WORKERS AT THE HANDS OF THE GOVERNMENT OF NAWAZ SHARIF

2 December 1998

  1. At around 6.30 a.m., plain clothed personnel of CIA Police raided his temporary residence at 2/8 Taqi Arcade, Nagan Chowrangi, Karachi, and arrested him. Manzar Rasheed is a resident of 423, 10-C, Bismillah Colony, Orangi Town No.10, Karachi. He is a chemical engineer and a worker of MQM Unit 126, Sector Orangi Town.
  2. Between 12 and 1 a.m., the personnel of Orangi Extension Police Station led by SHO Malik Mumtaz Awan raided the residence of Khalid Hussain son of Kalim Ullah. He is the Incharge of MQM Unit 124, Sector Orangi Town. In his absence they threatened and verbally abused the family members of dire consequences if they would not produce Khalid Hussain at the Police Station. It should be remembered that earlier on 28 November 1998, Police raided his residence and in his absence they brutally tortured his 12 year old brother Saleem and a three year old girl.
  3. At around 2 p.m., the personnel of CIA Police raided the DMC East Office and arrested three officers Ghulam Mohammad, Mubeen and Rashid Baig.

1 December 1998

  1. At midnight, the personnel of Khwaja Ajmer Nagri Police Station raided the temporary residence of Ahmed, a worker of MQM Unit 69, Sector Korangi, and arrested him.
  2. At around 10 p.m., the personnel of Satellite Town Police Station Mirpurkhas, raided his residence and arrested him. Aslam Qureshi 30, son of Faiz Mohammad Qureshi is a resident of Bansabad, Mirpurkhas, Sindh. He is a worker of MQM Unit 22-23, Sector D-Bansabad.
  3. At around 7 a.m., the personnel of New Karachi Police Station raided his residence and arrested him. Musharraf Ali Khan 35, son of Mushtaq Ali Khan is a resident of 11/17, 5-F, New Karachi, Karachi. He is a worker of MQM Unit 139, Sector New Karachi.

29 November 1998

At around 6 a.m., the personnel of Liaquatabad Police Station led by SHO Sarwar Commando raided the residence of Mahmood and arrested him. Mahmood 26, son of Maqsood is a resident of Liaquatabad, Karachi. He is a worker of MQM Unit 165, Sector Liaquatabad.
