LIFE IN DANGER: ARREST OF AN IMMOBILE AND SICK MAN
Karachi: November 27, 1998
On 27 November 1998, at 4:00 a.m., the Joint Sector Incharge of MQM Nazimabad-Gulbahar, Rashid Sabzwari son of Ehtemam Ali Sabzwari was arrested by the police from his temporary residence in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi. Rashid Sabzwari went through a second hip operation and was brought back home in the ambulance from the hospital, on 26 November at 7:00 p.m. A heavy contingent of police force came to arrest Mr Sabzwari who could not even move from his bed. It is to be noted that Mr. Rashid Sabzwari is the younger brother of Mr. Aslam Sabzwari who was extra-judicially murdered in July 1995.
We would like to report to you that search and arrests of MQM members, their relatives and supporters continues unabated. Detainees are being tortured to change their allegiance and for recording false confession of crimes concocted by the law enforcement themselves.
