HEAD OFFICE OF MUTTAHIDA QUAMI MOVEMENT (MQM) KNOWN AS "90" IN KARACHI IS BEING RAIDED BY THE POLICE AND OTHERS IN PLAIN CLOTHES

Today, on 21 November 1998, at around 1.30 a.m. (Pakistan Time), we are receiving reports that a raid is being conducted by the uniformed Police and others in plain clothes at the residence of Mr Altaf Hussain in Karachi, known as "90". It is also used as Head Office of MQM.
According to the reports an exceptionally large contingent of the police and others in plain clothes have put the entire area under siege. Not a soul can come in or go out. The adjacent building known as the "MPA Hostel" is being raided also at the same time, according to the reports of the neighbours, who are watching the on-going raids.
At the moment, the police are kicking and beating the MQM workers who were sleeping at the MPA Hostel. The Police and others are ransacking the MPA Hostel and indiscriminately arresting the office bearers and workers of the MQM.
