MASSIVE CRACKDOWN BY THE GOVERNMENT OF NAWAZ SHARIF UPON THE WORKERS AND SUPPORTERS OF THE MQM

Karachi: November 2, 1998

Since the imposition of ‘Governor Rule’ in the province of Sindh, Pakistan, the Government of Nawaz Sharif has given a free hand to the Law Enforcement Agencies to conduct raids and indiscriminately arrest the MQM workers and supporters. As a result several illegal raids and arrests have been carried out with a view to physically crush the MQM. Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) is the third largest political party of Pakistan and the second largest in the province of Sindh.

DETAILS OF MURDER, RAIDS, ARREST AND TORTURE

2 November 1998

1- At around 4 p.m., the personnel of Mominabad Police Station along with the Haqiqi terrorists raided the area of Rabbi Colony in Karachi. During this raid they arrested three MQM workers of Unit 125, Sector Qasbah Aligarh. Their details are:

i- Mohammad Ilyas, age: 39 year, son of Sarfraz Khan, resident of House No. 182, Sector 10-A, Qasbah Aligarh, Karachi.

ii- Shahbaz Ali son of Wahid Ali.

iii- Gulzar Hussain son of Shamshad Hussain.

2- Wahid, age: 30 year, resident of Commercial Area, Tariq Road, PECHS, Karachi. He is a worker of MQM Unit 65, Sector Society. At around 3.50 p.m., the personnel of Sharah-e-Faisal Police Station raided his house and arrested him.

3- Similarly, the personnel of law enforcement agencies raided the house of Jamal Noor, In-charge of MQM Society Sector, Mohammad Latif, Member of MQM Society Sector Committee, Waseem Khan, former In-charge of MQM Unit 63, Society Sector and Irfan, a worker of MQM Unit 63, Society Sector. Since none of the above were present in their homes, therefore, the raiding party harassed the family members and looted the valuables.

1 November 1998

1- Nanhe Bhai, age: 27 year, son of Rafiq Bhai, resident of Banglori Mohallah, Karachi. He is worker of MQM Unit 117, Sector Baldia. Between 3 and 4 a.m., the personnel of Baldia Police Station raided his house and arrested him. The same raiding party also raided the house of an MQM supporter Sultan and arrested him.

2- Mohammad Umer, age: 35 year, son of Mohammad Kamil, resident of B-219, Block-F, Khalilabad, North Nazimabad, Karachi. He is an office bearer of MQM Unit 175, Sector North Nazimabad. The personnel of CIA Police Saddar raided his house and arrested him. During the raid, his house was ransacked and valuables looted. His cousin Mohammad Arman son of Zahur Khan who had come to visit their house was also taken into custody.

3- Mohammad Jameel, age: 35 year, son of Mohammad Haroon, resident of North Naazimabad, Karachi. He is the brother of Wasim, an office bearer of MQM Unit 175, Sector North Nazimabad. At around 1 a.m., the personnel of CIA Police Saddar raided the house in search of Wasim. In his absence they arrested Mohammad Jameel.

4- Mohammad Aftab Alam, age: 35 year, son of Abdul Samad, resident of House No. 160, Sector 13-D, Karachi. He is a worker of MQM Unit 122, Sector Qasbah Aligarh. At around 3 a.m., the personnel of Orangi Extension Police Station raided the house and arrested him.

5- Mohammad Rizwan, age: 35 year, son of Mohammad Siddique, resident of North Karachi, Karachi. He is the brother of the Joint In-charge of MQM Unit 136, Sector North Karachi. At around 3.30 a.m., the personnel of Khwaja Ajmer Nagri Police Station raided his house in search of his brother Shaukat. In his absence they arrested his brother Mohammad Rizwan.

DETAIL OF MURDER

31 October 1998

Najam Uddin, age: Faiz Uddin, resident of 505, D-Area, Korangi, Karachi. He was a supporter of MQM Unit 76, Sector Korangi.

As a result of heavy and indiscriminate firing by the Haqiqi terrorists under the protection of the Law Enforcement Agencies in the D- Area of Korangi, Karachi, one MQM supporter Najam Uddin received bullet injuries and died on the spot while several MQM workers and supporters were severely injured. Details of those injured are:

1- Salim, age: 18 year, son of Abdul Khan, resident of Korangi. He is the brother of MQM Unit 76, Sector Korangi.

2- Raees, age: 17 year, son of Nawab Uddin, resident of G-Area, Korangi. He is a supporter of MQM Unit 76, Sector Korangi.

3- Mohammad Akram, age: B-577, Korangi, Karachi. He is a supporter of MQM Unit 76, Sector Korangi.

Since the General Elections in February 1997, more than 300 MQM workers and supporters have been ruthlessly and brutally murdered by the Intelligence Agencies of Pakistan and their sponsored terrorists, the ‘Haqiqi’.
