FOUR MORE WORKERS AND SUPPORTERS OF MQM BRUTALLY MURDERED IN COLD BLOOD

Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) is the third largest political party of Pakistan and the second largest in the province of Sindh, southern Pakistan. Since the General Elections in February 1997, more than 250 MQM office bearers, workers and supporters have been murdered in cold blood. Following are the details of recent killings:

I-- DETAILS OF KILLINGS

1- Akram Khan, age: 37 year, son of Firdous Khan (commonly known as Bhore Khan), ex councillor belonging to the MQM, resident of A-226, Block-T, North Nazimabad, Karachi. He was an office bearer of MQM Unit 175, Sector North Nazimabad Karachi.

On 2 October 1998, at around 2.30 p.m., he was coming out of the area mosque (Masjid Khair Ul Bashar) when two armed terrorists opened fire from point blank range. Akram Khan was shot in the head and was seriously injured. He was immediately rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. After initial treatment he was being taken to the Agha Khan Hospital for further treatment when he died on the way.

2- Mohammad Khalil Ahmed, age: 36 year, son of Abdul Shakoor, resident of H-5-D/180, Surjani Town, Karachi. He was a worker of MQM Surjani Town and also a member of MQM Labour Wing.

On 1 October 1998, at around 11 a.m., he was going to his work (near Taj Hotel at Boulton Market) when some armed intercepted him and opened fire. He was shot in the abdomen and was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi in a very critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries. It is to be noted that originally his residence was in Orangi Town but due to the continuous raids and harassment of the Law Enforcement Agencies he was temporarily residing in Surjani Town, Karachi.

3- Mohammad Shabbir Rajput, age: 52 year, son of Mohammad Hussain Rajput, resident of 6/102, Liaquatabad, Karachi. He was a supporter of MQM Unit 162, Sector Liaquatabad.

On 30 September 1998, the Haqiqi terrorists arrived in Liaquatabad and opened indiscriminate firing upon the innocent residents of the area. Mohammad Shabbir Rajput was among those who were shot. He was shot in the abdomen and was admitted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

4- Mohammad Alamgir, age: 27 year, son of Mohammad Ismail, resident of House No. 13, Sector 13-E, Orangi Town, Karachi. He was a supporter of MQM Unit 122, Sector Qasba Aligarh.

On 27 September 1998, he left his house for Landhi and never returned. On 28 September 1998, the family received an anonymous phone call saying that Alamgir has been arrested with the charge of possessing an illegal arm. The caller then inquired that if Alamgir is a member of MQM then we will try to get him released. Since the family members were very scared, therefore, they denied any involvement of Alamgir in politics. Later, on 30 September 1998, the family once again received a phone call with the message that the dead body of Alamgir is lying at the Edhi morgue.
