IMPOSITION
OF "GOVERNOR RULE" IN SINDH WILL BE DISASTROUS FOR
DEMOCRACY AND NATIONAL SOLIDARITY -- ALTAF HUSSAIN
London, 19 June 1998
The MQM Founder & Leader, Mr. Altaf Hussain has held State
Agencies responsible for the killings and destruction in Karachi.
The deteriorating law and order situation engineered by the
Agencies is a prelude to impose Governor Rule in Sindh province,
he declared. He said it is inconceivable for any patriotic
Pakistani that Agencies are engaged in their nefarious designs in
Sindh at a time when country is facing serious threat on its
borders and the economic crisis is worsening due to stoppage of
foreign economic aid or loans to Pakistan.
Mr. Altaf Hussain pointed out that since 3 February 1997, more
than 160 MQM workers and their relatives have been murdered --
only in the month of June 1998 over 10 MQM workers have been
murdered under the patronage of the State Agencies. He further
added that we have been very patient so far and today I have sent
an "SOS" message to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to
take serious notice of the conspiracies against the country and
the democratic system.
Mr. Altaf Hussain declared that people of Sindh province will
never accept the Governor Rule. He appealed to the people of
Pakistan, particularly the people of Sindh and the democratic
institutions to get united and defeat the nefarious conspiracies
against the people of Pakistan and the democracy. He added that
these conspiracies are not just against the MQM but the whole
fabric of the country. He pointed out that MQM is being targeted
because it has opposed the construction of Kalabagh Dam in the
interest of Sindh. Mr. Altaf Hussain appealed to all the Sindhi
people, intellectuals, journalists and writers to raise their
voice against the conspiracies hatched against the MQM.
