MERAJ SIDDIQUI, AN MQM WORKER, MURDERED IN LANDHI
SYSTEMATIC AND PERSISTENT MURDERS OF MQM WORKERS IN PARTICULAR AND MOHAJIRS IN GENERAL BY THE HAQIQI TERRORISTS TANTAMOUNT TO NEAR-GENOCIDE

Karachi, 16 February 1997

Kidnapping, torture and murders of MQM workers in particular and sympathisers and supporters in general by the State Intelligence Agencies’ sponsored terrorists "Haqiqis" under the direct protection of the Paramilitary Rangers is now becoming daily occurrence. We are forwarding these daily reports for your information.

1- Meraj Siddiqui, s/o Siraj Siddiqui, aged 21 years and a resident of House No. 45/7, D-Area, Landhi No. 6, Karachi, was kidnapped by three armed terrorists of Haqiqi Group, namely, Fahim Alias Commando, Ghulam Dastagir and Kashif, accompanied by the Paramilitary Rangers on 14 February 1998, at around 7.30 p.m., from his book shop (Mehdi Book Stall) in the presence of public and other shopkeepers. He was taken to the torture cell of Haqiqis, adjacent to the residence of Afaq Ahmed, the notorious criminal and Head of the Haqiqi terrorists. Meraj Siddiqui was tortured throughout the night and in the early hours of 15 February 1998, he was shot twenty six bullets resulting in his death, instantly. His dead body was dumped near the New Roshni School, near 51-C Telephone Exchange, Korangi, Karachi.

Earlier the family and neighbours of Meraj Siddiqui went to the den of the Haqiqis, begging mercy for his life. They were made to sit the entire night, mistreated, verbally and physically abused and later told that they will find his dead body.

2- Mohammad Hussain, s/o Mujib Uddin (late), aged 23 year and a resident of House No. 126/16, Sector 5-E, New Karachi, Karachi. He is a member of Sector Committee of MQM New Karachi. He was travelling in a taxi to his uncle’s house along with his two sisters, brother-in-law and three children. His taxi was stopped by armed activists of Haqiqi terrorists. The incumbent were pulled out of the taxi and beaten mercilessly while Mohammad Hussain was shot at his knees. Due to the interference of the crowd, the family managed to escape along with Mohammad Hussain while the terrorists continued firing indiscriminately. This incident took place on 15 February 1998, between 3 and 4 p.m., in broad day light and a very busy area near Al-Karam Square, Karachi. While this barbarism was going on the Paramilitary Rangers were standing only a few yards away protecting the terrorists.
