FORCIBLE EVICTION OF THE PEOPLE OF LANDHI AREA FOR SUPPORTING MQM IN KARACHI DURING AND
AFTER THE ELECTIONS IN PAKISTAN
We have already apprised you about some
of the unconstitutional methods adopted by Pakistan authorities in preventing the MQM
supporters to vote freely in the General Elections of 3 February 1997. The State sponsored
terrorists "Haqiqis" were unleashed
upon MQM voters and polling agents to create fear. As a result of torture and firing two
MQM workers were murdered and 35 have
been injured.
Despite all the obstacles, MQM won 28 seats in the Provincial
and 12 seats in the National Assembly. Having witnessed such results the
"Haqiqi" terrorists went berserk and started a spate of arson, loot and plunder
upon the homes of MQM supporters. Since
the polling day the "Haqiqis" have also threatened to kill the inhabitants of
Landhi areas if they do not vacate their homes.
The State is using "Haqiqi" terrorists to penalise and torture the people of

makeshift camps or with their relatives.
