Gunmen kill six, including five soldiers, in Pakistan AFP
QUETTA, Pakistan (AFP) - Five off-duty soldiers and a civilian were killed when unidentified gunmen on motorbikes opened fire on a car in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province, the police and military said. The military described the attack as an act of "terrorism" but said it had not been specifically aimed at the army. The six were in a civilian car near the garrison city of Khuzdar, some 310 kilometers (195 miles) south of the provincial capital Quetta, when three men armed with Kalashnikov rifles opened fire on them, local police said on Sunday. Five died at the scene and another died in hospital, a police spokesman said. The assailants fled on their motorbikes, he said. Military spokesman Major General Shaukat Sultan said in Islamaband that the dead included five soldiers and one civilian. He said two other people, including a soldier, were injured in the attack. "It was a normal act of terrorism and not really army specific," Sultan told AFP. "They were off-duty soldiers in their civilian dress," he said. Paramilitary troops have come under attack in the past in tribal-dominated Baluchistan with such incidents called "routine" by officials who link them to tribal demands for better compensation for use of their land and more jobs.

Three bombs rock Gwadar - The Nation
QUETTA (AFP)
- Three home-made bombs exploded in Gwadar early Saturday but caused no casualties or damage, police said. ‘Three explosions took place early Saturday morning, but caused no casualties or damage,’ police officer Abdus Sattar Lasi said. He said the first bomb went off at 6:45 am near the boundary wall of a police station. Another explosive device detonated 30 minutes later close to Gwadar deep sea port and a third exploded 30 minutes after that in a dust bin near a mosque. He said the devices were home-made ‘bottle-bombs.’ No organisation has claimed responsibility for the blasts, but officials believe these are linked to an ongoing campaign by people angry over the recruitment of employees from other provinces for the port project. Gwadar lies some 580 kilometres southwest of Quetta on the Arabian Sea coast. Three Chinese from the China Engineering Harbour Co. were killed and nine others were wounded near the multi-million dollar Gwadar seaport project on May 4 when an explosive-laden car blew up as a van carrying 12 Chinese engineers and technicians passed by.  Three soldiers injured in explosion : A report from Islamabad adds: three soldiers were injured when their vehicle hit explosives buried in the road in a tribal area near the Afghan border, a military spokesman said Saturday. ‘Three soldiers were injured while travelling in North Waziristan when their vehicle passed over explosives planted in the road,’ Major General Shaukat Sultan said. Witnesses, however, said one solider was killed and six seriously injured when a rocket hit their vehicle near Razmak. Sultan denied these reports. The area where the attack took place borders the South Waziristan district where troops have been hunting Al-Qaeda-linked militants for over three months. In June forces backed by jets and helicopters took over the Shakai valley in a major operation that left 65 foreign fighters and their local supporters dead. Some 18 troops were killed in the June assault, during which the army said it dismantled an Al-Qaeda training camp and some militant hideouts. The authorities have been pressing tribes to expel hundreds of Chechen and Uzbek fighters who sneaked into the region after the US-led offensive ousted Afghanistan’s hardline Taliban regime in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks in the United States.
