In a first display of street power against Rangers since the March 11 raid on its Nine Zero head office, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement took out a huge rally on Thursday and staged a sit-in near the Quaid’s mausoleum when police stopped it from marching further towards Jinnah Courts, the headquarters of the paramilitary force, in protest over frequent raids and arrests of party workers.

To protest the arrests of party workers and candidates ahead of the local bodies polls and alleged extra-judicial killings of its workers by the Sindh Rangers, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) supporters on Thursday staged a rally from Liaquatabad No 10, following the party’s late night call to march up to the paramilitary force's headquarters.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) led on Thursday a rally to protest the arrest of its workers ahead of the local government elections.
The rally failed to reach its destination, the Pakistan Rangers headquarters in front of Polo Ground, but the party leaders deemed the demonstration successful and dispersed near Numaish Chowrangi.

The situation of tension was defused when Muttahida Qaumi Movement leaders asked their supporters to return during a rally against Rangers on Thursday.
Earlier, MQM took out a protest rally from Liaquatabad area which was scheduled to end at Rangers Headquarters near Sindh Assembly.
