Karachi – 10th September 2006
MQM Founder & Leader Mr Altaf Hussain has stated that the rain affected people of Hyderabad and other cities of Sindh are looking towards the MQM, therefore, the MQM workers should feel their responsibility and come to their aid and rescue. He appealed to the public, specially the affluent people, to generously donate zakat and fitrah to KKF, the welfare wing of MQM so that it provides aid and relief for the affected people. He expressed these thoughts while addressing the MQM worker and KKF volunteers in meetings simultaneously organised in Karachi and 16 other zones of Sindh. He said that the month of Ramadan is approaching at a time when Karachi to Kashmore is affected as a result of the non-stop heavy rainfall causing severe damage to the urban and rural areas of Sindh including loss of lives and property. Hundreds of homes have lost their worldly possessions; thousands are compelled to live in rescue and relief camps.
Mr Hussain reminded that the MQM has always responded to any natural disaster in the country and its welfare wing KKF has always served the people of the country indiscriminately. After the earthquake that hit Kashmir and NWFP on 8th October 2006, the MQM workers, office bearers and members of parliament with their day and night efforts provided relief to the affected, which has been witnessed by all. MQM is the only political party of the country whose workers help the affected in the name of serving the humanity. He said that even at this moment, the MQM workers are busy in providing aid and relief to the affected people of Hyderabad and relief camps are being erected in the city. Addressing the MQM workers Mr Hussain said that the rain-affected people of Hyderabad are once again looking towards the MQM and therefore the MQM workers must respond and actively participate in the relief activities and start collecting the donations in the form of zakat and fitrah. He also appealed to the affluent section of the society to come forward and generously donate zakat and fitrah to the KKF so as to provide relief and aid to the affected before the beginning of Ramadan enabling them able to prepare Sehri and Iftari and celebrate Eid. Mr Hussain explicitly instructed the workers to collect donations humbly, not to coerce anyone and pleasantly accept any amount of donation offered. For those who lost their lives in the recent rain related accident, Mr Hussain prayed to Almighty Allah to grant them the status of martyr and the early recovery of those injured. He also praised the efforts of the MQM workers busy in providing relief and aid to the affected.
