MQM SHOWS STRENGTH FOR CITY NAZIM
POLLS OF OCT 6:
PRESENTS OVER 1700 ELECTORAL MEMBERS
KARACHI (SEPT 29)---
Muttehada Quami Movement showed strength for city
Nazim and Naib
Nazim elections of October 6 by presenting over 1700
councillors forming the electoral college.
Addressing them at a dinner hosted by the Haq Parast Panel at the
Jinnah Ground in Azizabad
here tonight, MQM leader Altaf Hussain however warned that a conspiracy was on
to change the results of the third and last phase of the local bodies elections.
He asked the conspirators to desist from their
nefarious activities, else followers of his party would ensure that justice is
done through courts of the country.
Altaf Hussain invited the guests, including media representatives to go for a
head count and satisfy themselves whether the MQM had a clear majority or not.
Congratulating Mustafa Kamal and
Nasreen Jalil, nominees
for city nazim and deputy nazim,
in advance, Mr Hussain directed them to work for uplift of the common man.
They should do their homework properly, draw a
priority list of the welfare projects including those for education, health,
sanitation, water supplies etc. Problems of the people needed to be attended
properly, he said.
He said that no one can buy the Haq
Parast councillors as they are not a saleable
commodity. Their loyalty is beyond any shadow of doubt as party believes in
principles.
MQM had arranged the dinner to end the controversy and rumour mongering about
the actual strength of the Haq
Parast councillors elected in the first phase of local government
elections of August 18.
MQM needs a little over 1100 votes to win both seats whereas it already has 1362
councillors elected on its tickets and the support of over 400 more
councillors, including independents. Who also attended the
dinner.
